Living Room Seating Packaging Standards

Soft Pack Packaging Guidelines for Stationary Seating

Product Handling and Storage

Sofas, loveseats, and chairs will be stored and transported vertically, standing freely on their ends. Inner packaging at the ends must adequately protect the product from storage and handling impacts. Line To Ground guidelines must be followed.

Inner Packaging Requirements

  • KD legs must NOT be pre-installed to maintain a narrow footprint for doorway access.
  • Loose cushions and pillows must be stacked without exceeding frame height.
  • No straps are allowed on loose cushions (to avoid compression indentations)(fig3).
  • Protective cardboard endcaps or trays must be installed at both ends (one endcap allowed only for promotional products).
  • Use an inner bag or polypropylene sheeting to prevent friction from endcaps.
  • Protective materials must NOT be stapled directly to the product)(fig4).
  • Wooden supports fastened to the frame through the black bottom dust cover may also be used to enable the unit to stand freely without leaning.(fig1)
  • If the product has a rolled arm, or similar design that may cause the unit to lean when stood on it’s end, foam or cardboard filler may be required inside the tray to square off the end, so that the product is able to stand on it’s end freely.(fig2)

Outer Packaging Requirements

  • Thick, strong outer bag that resists tearing or puncturing.
  • Outer bag must be pulled tight to prevent cushion shifting.
  • Outer bag must protect and cover the black dust cover area.
  • Bag sealed with tape at 10” intervals to ensure tightness.
  • If bag has vent holes, an inner protective bag is required underneath.

Carton Packaging Guidelines for Motion Seating

Product Handling and Storage

Motion sofas and loveseats are stored and transported on their ends, vertically or horizontally. Packaging must protect the product through all orientations. Line To Ground guidelines apply.

Outer Packaging Requirements

  • Use a sturdy carton rated for the product’s weight and size.
  • Carton must fit snugly with minimal air space.
  • Carton must stand freely on its end without leaning or falling.
  • Strengthen carton corners with corner boards.
  • Seal with tape; no staples allowed.
  • All required markings, labels, and Line To Ground markings must be present.

Inner Packaging Requirements

  • Wrap product in non-woven or breathable plastic bag to prevent friction damage.
  • Wrap KD seat backs individually in non-woven or breathable bags.
  • Use filler materials to support and immobilize components inside the carton.
  • Orient product inside carton for optimized container loading and stacking.
  • Provide foam filler support to prevent compression marks on KD backs.

Tape should be pulled tight at 10” intervals. This is to ensure that the black bottom doesn’t get damaged

during handling.
